Public records request policy

Code of Alabama 1975, 36-12-40 provides that "[e]very citizen has a right to inspect and take a copy of any public writing of this state, except as otherwise expressly provided by statute."

Some of the records maintained by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama are available at the official website and may be obtained electronically. These records include license and disciplinary information. Those seeking public records are encouraged to first determine if the information sought is available through the licensee search and public actions database before contacting the Board or Commission.

As required by state law, the Board complies with 36-12-40 unless the requested record information is exempt from public disclosure. The General Counsel serves as the access officer to such records and questions regarding policies or documents should be addressed to the Office of General Counsel, or telephone 334-242-4116.

Responses to requests for public records will be reviewed between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is no fee for this service. Every effort will be made to provide requested records eligible for release to the requesting party within a reasonable time. Electronic delivery is strongly preferred. To obtain copies of public records, please complete the public records request form.
